Truth Untapped is the title of the 2019 creative nonfiction (CNF) season. Creative nonfiction is one of those blanket terms that many people, even some writers, have trouble understanding. If you need help better understanding creative nonfiction, read what one of the experts in CNF says about it.
The 2019 season is a women's only seminar and workshop season, that will be hosted by Priscilla Domínguez. Guest lecturers will be leading seminars in February, April and May. Seminars/workshops will be held the third Saturday of every month in 2019. January through July will be seminars with the topic announced ahead of time, and the rest of the year will be writing workshops. The goal of the season is to have participants submit a story for publication to a magazine/journal, or submit to read at TPR's Worth Repeating. Everyone has a story, and we want to help you share it.
Pricing: Seminars $10 for a single seminar; $25 for any three seminars Workshops $5
How the seminars will go: Reading materials will be assigned the Wednesday before each seminar, which will need to be read before the Saturday meet time. Material will be provided by host; no additional charge to participants. Signing up for the class ahead time, therefore, is imperative. Bring something to write on and write with. Mini-exercises may be a part of the seminar. All seminars will be held at a bar, so don't be shy to have a brew!
How the writing workshops will go: Participants will need to register for the seminar at least a week before the intended date. Participants will write a short CNF piece (not to exceed 1,500 words). Stories will be shared via email in order to give everyone time to read and critique each paper and to give thoughtful critics the day of the workshop. Keep an open mind to criticism, but know that your story is ultimately your story. Critiques are about helping to improve writing, never to make someone feel bad!
